The Alabama Orchestra Association was established to foster a spirit of friendliness, fellowship, and cooperation among string teachers and orchestra conductors in the State of Alabama. The mission is to develop a comprehensive program that will be of musical and educational benefit to string teachers and their students. AOA hopes to provide a common meeting ground and clearing house for an exchange of ideas and methods that will stimulate professional growth among string teachers that will, in general, advance the standards of musical and educational achievement for the string students of Alabama.
-quoted from the 1977 AOA bi-laws, Article II, section 1-3
